Stories From Our Community
The families who have been part of Oakridge share their experiences — in their own words.
Back to HomeWhat Families Have Shared
Christine Tan
Daughter, Ang Mo Kio
My mother was reluctant to leave the flat where she'd lived for thirty years. What helped was how patiently the Oakridge team handled the transition. They didn't rush her. Within a month, she was joining the morning exercise group and telling me about the recipes she'd shared during Tea & Talk. I hadn't heard her that engaged in a long time.

Ahmad bin Hassan
Son, Bukit Batok
We tried the respite care programme during the December school holidays last year. My father-in-law was sceptical at first, but the halal meals and the comfortable room put him at ease quickly. The staff were kind and attentive. We would have liked slightly more variety in the afternoon activities, but overall it was a very good experience.

Priya Subramaniam
Granddaughter, Tampines
My grandmother moved to Oakridge after a fall at home. We were anxious, but the way the team handled everything — from understanding her vegetarian diet to remembering that she likes to listen to Tamil radio in the evenings — made us feel she was in the right place. It's the small things that matter, and they get that.

Lim Wei Ming
Son, Clementi
What I appreciate about Oakridge is that they don't try to sell you anything. When I first visited, they encouraged me to take my time, talk to my siblings, and come back with questions. That felt genuine. My father has been there eight months now, and he seems settled and content.

Siti Rahmah
Tea & Talk Participant, Hillview
I live on my own and my children are busy with work. The Tea & Talk sessions give me something to look forward to each week. I've met people there I now consider friends. The tea is always good, and the conversations are even better. I wish there were two sessions a week instead of one.

David Koh
Son, Woodlands
The cost was a concern for us — residential care is not cheap in Singapore. But Oakridge was upfront about everything from the beginning. No hidden charges, no pressure to add extras. The transparency made the financial planning much easier for our family. And the care my mother receives is worth every cent.

A Closer Look: Two Family Stories
Every family's journey is different. Here are two stories that show how Oakridge adapted to meet very different needs.
The Ng Family — Finding Stability After a Health Setback
Challenge: Mr Ng, 82, had been living independently until a stroke left him needing daily assistance with meals, mobility, and medication. His daughter, a full-time teacher, couldn't provide round-the-clock care at home.
What we did: Our team met with Mr Ng and his daughter before admission to understand his routines — including his love of Cantonese opera and his preference for congee at breakfast. These details were written into his personal care guide. Staff assigned to his care were kept consistent, and a physiotherapy schedule was incorporated into his week.
Outcome: After three months, Mr Ng's mobility had improved, and he was attending social activities two to three times a week. His daughter visits regularly and no longer carries the daily stress of managing his care alone.
The Yusof Family — Holiday Cover That Became a Tradition
Challenge: The Yusof family needed temporary care for their grandmother, Mdm Fatimah, during the June school holidays. Their children's camp schedules meant no one could be home during the day, and Mdm Fatimah required help with daily routines.
What we did: Mdm Fatimah stayed for ten days during our Seasonal Respite programme. Her preferences for halal meals, her daily prayer times, and her enjoyment of card games were all noted. By the third day, she had befriended two other guests and was participating in group activities.
Outcome: The family has now booked respite stays three times over the past year. Each time, Mdm Fatimah settles in quickly because the team already knows her preferences. Her grandson says she looks forward to her Oakridge visits.
